Events to Attend

Orientation

International Student Orientation will be held at 101 McCormick Hall, from September 4, 2008, and September 5, 2008 (each day 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.); schedules will be mailed to international students directly by the Office of Visa Services. For students who can't attend our main program, we have a make-up immigration session to be held directly following Graduate School Orientation on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at 010 East Pyne.

Graduate School Orientation will be held on Tuesday, September 9, 2008, from 10:00 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Richardson Auditorium in Alexander Hall. In the morning, general information on academic requirements and student programs/services will be presented. Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Dean and Mrs. William B. Russel invite you to attend an afternoon reception at the University Art Museum to welcome all incoming graduate students.

Your department should be among your first visits. Many departments have orientation sessions or special meetings for first-year students. Your department is the source of information about course offerings and class schedules. The Director of Graduate Studies is the individual who will help you with your curriculum and inform you of your immediate and long-term academic requirements.

Registration

Registration is an on-line, web-based process for both newly entering and continuing graduate students through a site called SCORE (Student Course Online Registration Engine). By going to the SCORE site at the proper time, you will be able to log on and complete the registration process in minutes. This on-line registration site can also be used whenever you need to update your address or phone contact information throughout the year. In addition, you can visit the Change My Info website to update other information at anytime.

SCORE will be open and available for student registration on September 3, 2008 and will close at the end of business Friday, September 19, 2008. More details and specific instructions about using SCORE will be sent to you by the Registrar's Office during the month of August.

Students can also use SCORE to select courses. The Graduate School advises, however, that new graduate students wait to do this until they have spoken with their Director of Graduate Studies prior to the beginning of the fall term.your immediate and long-term academic requirements.
