Employment Eligibility
For all Incoming Graduate Students
The 1986 Immigration Reform & Control Act requires employers to verify the employment eligibility of all new employees. The Immigration and Naturalization Services (INS) has issued the I-9 form to be used for this purpose.
During your tenure as a student, you may wish to work for the University or you may otherwise be considered an employee for the purposes of this law (i.e., Assistant in Instruction, Assistant in Research, College Work Study).
In order to comply, all incoming students must complete and sign the top portion (section 1) of the I-9 form. Please print an I-9 form and present it in person at the New Student Sign-In from 9 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, September 10, 2008, at Chancellor Green Rotunda, East Pyne. To assist with the I-9 process, please bring with you identity and employment eligibility documents.
Some documents establish both identity and employment eligibility. These are listed on the I-9 form under List A. If you do not provide a document from List A, you must provide one document that establishes identity (List B) and one document that establishes employment eligibility (List C).
